Due to high demand and the success of the previous classes, the Aylesbury Everyoman´s centre is presenting a New Sewing Class.
Desk, Office & Project Spaces:
1. Due to the current resident rehousing needs in the Elephant & Castle area we have handed back to the council 27-29 Brandon St ( ex Surgery) for their staff use.
2. UNIT 5 has been approved for use by the Latin American Multicultural Group
3.We currently have 2 double desk spaces available in Units - 7/9 of the Brandon St facilities in June 2009.
4. Unit 15 has now been approved for use by Alevis.
5. Unit 17 has now been approved for use by the Southwark Vietnamese Chinese Community
6. Unit 11 has now been approved for use by Gotitas de Sabor
Desk, Office & Project Spaces:
The Centre includes areas available for large and small group training activities, interview rooms for one-to-one sessions, an Internet Access area, crèche area and rest room.

Desks, beds, mattresses and microwaves were among the 14 tonnes of waste salvaged from Kingston University’s former Rennie Hall of Residence at Kingston Hill, South West London, before the bulldozers moved in this summer to make way for a new building. Kitchens, bathrooms and 85 bedrooms were stripped of more than 900 items of furniture, fittings and equipment by London-based sustainability project ‘Offers/Ex-IT’ in preparation for the new development. More than 90 per cent of the goods have since been accepted by London and Surrey charities which will redistribute 71 per cent of the items to the homeless and socially-disadvantaged and recycle 28.1 per cent. Only 0.9 per cent (six mattresses) ended up in landfill.
The ‘Offers/Ex-IT’ project has been reusing and recycling office furniture, fittings and computer hardware for the past ten years. Director, Richard Anderson, sees the involvement of major organisations such as Kingston University as an important part of the sustainability agenda for local communities. “It’s all about making the most of the resources we have, saving money and the environment. By going into places such as universities, we’re taking the benefits of sustainability – recycling and reusing materials otherwise destined for landfill – straight to that organisation’s local community,” he said. Local charities already benefitting from the project include: Furniture Aid South Thames, Furnish – Staying Put Services, Furniture Scheme Richmond and Croydon ARC. The charities are now redistributing these essential household items to those in need across several boroughs.

fonesforsafety® : Rolling out across London in 2010 & 11
The fonesforsafety® project recycles and reconfigures old, unwanted mobile phones into potential life saving devices for individuals whose lives are affected by domestic violence.
fonesforsafety® has been proven to make a real difference by supporting and empowering individuals affected by domestic violence. In addition it links corporate social responsibility and environmental protection, and helps in raising the wider awareness of the social challenge of domestic violence.
As part of the London-wide Launch, the London business community, local government and Londoners are being asked to come together and pledge support to this important initiative by donating their unwanted mobile phones to directly help victims and survivors of domestic violence and to ensure the long term sustainability of this valuable project
COMMUNITY & SOCIAL ENTERPRISE
We work specifically with local residents and groups to support Social Enterprises / Community Businesses run by local people to serve the local area as a means of creating business opportunities and local employment.
The Access Centre & Elephant Enterprises provide sessions on Business & Financial Management Skills with training to local Aylesbury community groups linked to the Access Centre and to the wider community through Elephant Enterprises, to help improve their general business & project management skills

fonesfor safety has been shortlisted for the CIWM Awards for Environmental Excellence.
The CIWM Awards for Environmental Excellence will take place at the Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane, London on the afternoon of Wednesday 11th November 2009.
The Learning Centre recorded over 760 new users during the last twelve months (April 2009 to March 2010) with projects managing to both survive the financial difficulties of reduced funding and delays in payment while receiving a very positive feedback from the many people who have used the full range of services provided by over 20 projects based in or regularly running sessions in the centre.
